FINNEYPEPE was minted on October 15, 2016. I created this collectible in honor of computer scientist and early Bitcoin developer, Hal Finney. For many crypto pioneers, Hal is a legend second only to Satoshi Nakamoto himself. In Bitcoin’s first five years, Hal contributed innumerable ‘firsts’ to the space before succumbing to ALS in 2014. I chose to leave this token undistributed until I could find a way to tastefully capture his legacy. That took almost 5 full years until June 2021 when I came into possession of an authentic piece of early crypto artwork, which was exactly what I was looking for during the years prior. It was a sketched portrait of Hal rendered in 2013 by the hand of an artist for a now-defunct crypto exchange while sitting at Hal's house before he was completely isolated to his bed. The salvaged sketch was colorized and then animated in the Pepe style, to be presented in a fine collectible format, as you see today. High Resolution Version (click to expand)
