High Resolution Version (click to expand) Remster is creating a dialogue with his community to highlight that the National Commission for Culture and the Arts Gallery, despite its perceived reputation as traditionalist, is in fact encouraging and supportive of modern and innovative platforms for artists and designers to deliver their visual narratives, such as the use of augmented reality to enhance and simulate audience experiences. As cellular phones are considered all-functional devices, why not use them to integrate new-media art into people's lives? Remster is championing the use of augmented reality art through this solo exhibition. He hopes and believes that his presentations will provide an avenue, particularly for fellow artists who regard his art form as not formalistic or fine art, to understand his community's plight. For Remster, augmented reality art is by no means just a trend; it enhances real-world experiences through computer-generated perceptual information. It is about understanding the artworks not just by the techniques employed or the symbolisms imbued in them, but also by telling stories beyond 2D space. The programmed movements and alterations are part of what makes it more exciting and insightful. Some members of his community consider themselves against the traditional system and adhere solely to virtual art-making and patronage. Remster deviates from this stance. He believes their community must understand the importance of reaching out and educating others. For him, the ecosystem is always symbiotic. Magpalaya at Maging Malaya means the following: The capacity to explore and use new media as an advancement in presenting visual forms and narratives. The use of simulated elements to enhance viewer experience, providing better understanding of the stories compared to traditional painting itself. The intermarriage of the traditional way of producing art forms and computer-enhanced assets. The exhibition was a catalyst for common people to appreciate advancements in technological aspects. By being introduced to these concepts, people will appreciate that art is not far removed from technology. The art represents aesthetics and intrinsic value, while technology represents design. The design is the device used and its application. Although nowadays, art-making often leads to the notion of "art for art’s sake," it does not end there. The use of concept and skill must be maintained. It is actually more non-restrictive compared to intuitive and spontaneous means, which are essentially boundless and eventually lose their purpose and meaning. As a multidisciplinary and serious artist, Remster understands this. To be free means to understand your responsibilities.
